The Founder of the Institute: Ven. Chuk Mor Biography

Educational Background:
Ven. Chuk Mor graduated from MinNan Buddhist Institute, China; Researcher of WuChang Buddhist Institute.
In year 1922, Ven. Chuk Mor studied at Leqing Private School.
In year 1924, he became a novice.
In year 1925, Ven. Chuk Mor served as Ven. ZhiFeng’s attendant at Yong Jia PuJue Temple. Ven. ZhiFeng taught him classic poetry.
In year 1926, Ven. Chuk Mor stayed at SiMing MeiXu JingZong Temple with Bai Yun Shang Ren.
In year 1928, Ven. Chuk Mor was fully ordained as a monk at the age of sixteen.
In year 1933, Ven. Chuk Mor was one of the prominent students of Tai Xu Da Shi. He followed while Tai Xu Da Shi visited Hong Kong, Macao and other places for lectures.
In year 1939, Ven. Chuk Mor served as the editor of JueYin Magazine in Hong Kong (Macau).
In year 1951 Ven. Chuk Mor brought to Malaysia the "Everlasting Light", the magazine he founded in Hong Kong. Today it is still being published regularly as the official organ of the Malaysian Buddhist Association.
In year 1953, Ven. Chuk Mor served as the academic affairs director of Qi Xia Buddhist Institute.
In year 1954, Ven. Chuk Mor took charge of Tai Xu Da Shi’s stupa opening ceremony; while a painting and calligraphy exhibition was also held.
On 4th May, 1954, Ven. Chuk Mor served as a teacher and taught Buddhism in Bodhi Institute. He had written three volumes of Buddhism Textbooks to be used as his teaching materials.
In February of year 1955, Ven. Chuk Mor’s painting and calligraphy exhibition was held in Singapore to raise fund for the Buddhist higher education scholarship committee. Thirteen thousand was raised by publishing the 2nd album of Ven. Chuk Mor’s paintings and calligraphy. The fund was allocated to the Buddhist higher education scholarship and part of it was used to publish the book of “Deng She Yan Shu”. Besides, a scholarship committee was formed in Penang. Ven. Chuk Mor was appointed as the director of the committee.
On 19th April 1959, Ven. Chuk Mor was unanimously appointed as the first chairperson of the Malaysian Buddhist Association (MBA).
In July 1962, Ven. Chuk Mor and his disciples raised fund in establishing The Buddhist Triple Wisdom Hall, and the Buddhist Triple Wisdom Hall was founded in year 1965.
1963年,長老與本道、真果、金星、金明法師等13人發起購買車水路之地興建佛總,更於1969年開辦馬來西亞佛學院,並於1970年擔任馬來西亞佛學院首任院長。
1990年3月23日閉關進修3年。
1996年法師手抄之《般若波羅密多心經》墨寶被收藏在台北故宮博物館。
1997年卸下三慧講堂住持一職。
1998年榮獲檳州元首封賜DMPN高級拿督勛銜。
2002年2月4日圓寂,享年90歲,僧臘77歲。
